MADAGASCAR, French Colony ~ 1943-SA ~ 50 Centimes ~ Bronze ~ 1 year WW2 type struck in Pretoria, South Africa ~ Y-1, KM-1, Lec-93 ~ Choice Red Unc

The Free French Government authorised the issue of bronze coins by decree on 10 August 1943 (amended on 17 January 1944). The South African Union mint in Pretoria struck this coin (Source: Monnaies et jetons des colonies françaises, Ed. Gadoury).

These coins circulated in Madagascar and the Comores (which became a seperate colony in 1946). 

The were withdrawn from circulation (in both Madagascar and the Comores) on 1 September 1956 and were exchangable until 1 December 1956.
