This unique, dual-denomination silver (.999 fine) gem proof from the partially-recognized Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (Western Sahara) commemorates the European Community (now European Union) and features two of the most significant figures in European history.
The reverse depicts Charles V, the Holy Roman Emperor who ruled a vast Habsburg empire, on horseback alongside Charlemagne, the Frankish king known as the "Father of Europe." The inscription reads "EN HONOR A LA COMUNIDAD EUROPEA" (In Honor of the European Community) alongside "10 ECU."
The coin's denomination in both Pesetas and ECUs (European Currency Units) is particularly interesting. The ECU was a unit of account used by the European Community before it was replaced by the Euro in 1999. This dual denomination reflects the coin's intent to honor the European Community.
This coin is in Gem Proof condition, showcasing pristine surfaces with a mirror-like finish and frosted design elements.
